The Soundtrack of My Life

My Past...

Born To Try by Delta Goodrem

Doing everything that I believe in
Going by the rules that I've been taught
More understanding of what's around me
And protected from the walls of love

All that you see is me
And all I truly believe

That I was born to try
I've learned to love
Be understanding
And believe in life
But you've got to make choices
Be wrong or right
Sometimes you've got to sacrifice the things you like

But I was born to try

No point in talking of what should have been
And regretting the things that went on
Life's full of mistakes, destinies and fate
Remove the clouds, look at the bigger picture

And all that you see is me
And all I truly believe

That I was born to try
I've learned to love
Be understanding
And believe in life
But you've got to make choices
Be wrong or right
Sometimes you've got to sacrifice the things you like

But I was born to try

All that you see is me
And all I truly believe
All that you see is me
And all I truly believe

That I was born to try

I've learned to love
Be understanding
And believe in life
But you've got to make choices
Be wrong or right
Sometimes you've got to sacrifice the things you like

But I was born to try

But you've got to make choices
Be wrong or right
Sometimes you've got to sacrifice the things you like

But I was born to try

This song reflects my past (specifically the 3rd Stage: Initiative and Guilt) in the sense that I as a teenager, I ought to explore new things, that I was "born to try". Again, I want to tell my UP experience as an example. I did not pass the UPCAT exam. But then I told myself, "All my childhood days, I dreamed of studying in UP. Why should I give up now?". I was left with two choices: study in a school near our house in Mandaluyong which is, well, not that popular and where the quality of education is less than outstanding , or study in UP but undergo a course that is not really my preference (through a reconsideration process)? If I chose the former, I'll be giving up one of my childhood dreams, but then I'll be keeping my family close to me. If I chose the latter, the dream will be fulfilled in some way, but then I'll be away from my family. As the song goes: But you've got to make choices/Be wrong or right/Sometimes you've got to sacrifice the things you like/But I was born to try. Obviously, I chose to study here. I may not like being away from my family, but that's my sacrifice. Anyways, I'm doing this for them. I removed the clouds away and looked at the bigger picture.

My Present...

One Step At A Time by Jordin Sparks

da da da um da da
da da da ba um da da
da da da um da da
da da da ba um da da

Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you always dreamed of
Close enough for you to taste
But you just can't touch

HOOK
You wanna show the world but no one knows yours name yet
Wonderin' when, where and how you're going to make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face and the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you getting all kinda impatient
Waiting, we live and we learn

CHORUS
To take one step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly, or falling in love
It's gonna happen when it's supposed to happen
And we find the reasons why
One step at a time

da da da um da da
da da da ba um da da
da da da um da da
da da da ba um da da

You believe, and you doubt
You're confused, and got it all figured out
Everything that you always wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
If they only knew

HOOK
You wanna show the world but no one knows yours name yet
Wonderin' when, where and how you're going to make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face and the door keeps slamming
Now you're feeling more and more frustrated
And you getting all kinda impatient
Waiting, we live and we learn

CHORUS
To take one step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly, or falling in love
It's gonna happen when it's supposed to happen
And we find the reasons why
One step at a time

When you can't wait any longer (you can't wait)
But there's no end in time (when you need to find the strength)
It's your faith that makes you stronger (the only way we get there)
The only way we get there
Is one step at a time

To take one step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly, or falling in love (Falling in love)
It's gonna happen when it's supposed to happen
And we find the reasons why
One step at a time

One step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly, or falling in love (Falling in love)
It's gonna happen when it's supposed to happen
And we find the reasons why

One step at a time

Just recently, we had an activity called the human bingo in our class. I ended up signing the space for "single since zygote". And then you asked me what's the feeling of being "single since zygote". I answered "masaya naman". That quite represents what I'm presently experiencing. There are some things that I'm not in a hurry to do. I'm not really in a hurry to fall in love and be loved. It's gonna happen when it's supposed to happen. You may say that I'm not honest with myself because of this statement, but that's how I'm feeling right now.
Another case is for me to graduate. I'm quite impatient to go finish my studies and graduate and go to work. Actually, I have a choice to graduate this summer, but then after some thinking, I chose not to. I'm taking it one step at a time. I can graduate early, but then I have to burden myself with a lot of majors that is really quite difficult. Instead of graduating early, I might end up getting delayed for another semester for failing my majors. I don't want that to happen. There's no need to rush. My college life will soon end, and I want to experience it to the fullest. It's MY faith (that I would graduate with flying colors) that makes ME stronger. The only way (for me) to get there is one step at a time.

My future...

Innocent by David Cook

Oh, Johnny wishes he was famous
Spends his time alone in the basement
With Lennon and Cobain and a guitar and a stereo
And while he wishes he could escape this
But it all seems so contagious
Not to be yourself and faceless
In a song that has no soul

I remember feeling low
And I remember losing hope
And I remember all the feelings
And the day they stopped

We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are
We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are

Oh, and Gina's losing faith in what she knows
Hates her music, hates all of her clothes
Thinks of surgery and a new nose; every calorie's a war
And while she wishes she was a dancer
And that she never heard of cancer
She wishes God would give her some answers
And make her feel beautiful

I remember feeling low
And I remember losing hope
And I remember all the feelings
And the day they stopped

We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are
We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are

One day, you'll have to let it go
You'll have to let it go, no
One day, you'll stand up on your own
You'll stand up on your own, yeah
Remember losing hope
Remember feeling low
Remember all the feelings and the day they stopped

We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are
We are, we are all innocent
We are all innocent, we are, we are

One day
(We are, we are all innocent)
You'll have to let it go
(We are all innocent)
You'll have to let it go, no
(We are, we are)
One day
(We are, we are all innocent)
You'll stand up on your own
(We are all innocent)
You'll stand up on your own, yeah
(We are, we are)

We are, we are all innocent

In the future, I am hoping to become a better person who is not insecure about her appearance. I want to be confident with who I am as a person, and not compare myself to others, even if it all seems so contagious not to be MYself and faceless.
I do have fantasies of becoming famous someday, but then I want to be famous for what I can do best.
I also hope for me to be able to stand up on my own, to be independent and free of obligations. And then, if possible, I hope to have someone with whom I can share my life with intimately. Life will be much sweeter.
